The Story of Jesus

The true account of the life of Jesus is often told as a story, but in reality, His life is the very foundational cornerstone of faith and relationship with God.

Story Summary

As the diagram illustrates, in the beginning, the perfect and all-powerful God created humankind in His image and they had relationship with one another.  When the first man sinned (acted in disobedience to God's will) he severed any chance of having a relationship with God and this became so for all of humanity.  God, because of his sinless and perfect nature, does not have fellowship with people if they have not turned to him and continue to live an imperfect and sinful life.  The worst part of the story is that if a person dies, and has not turned to God at that point he or she has to spend eternity in hell, apart from God and in inexpressible physical torture.  The best part of the story is that God, in his infinite love and grace, provided a way for people to regain relationship with Himself and have eternal life in heaven, in His presence.  God sent His Son, Jesus to earth for 33 years.  Jesus lived a sinless life.  His words are recorded in the Bible and among other things He said, "I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to God the Father, except through me."  When Jesus was murdered, according to God's plan, God raised him from the dead and His death became the substitution for anyone who wants to believe and be saved.  Therefore, we can have eternal life in heaven with God when we die.

Here are some passages from the Bible regarding being saved.

Romans 3

21 But now God has shown us a different way of being right in his sight—not by obeying the law but by the way promised in the Scriptures long ago. 22 We are made right in God’s sight when we trust in Jesus Christ to take away our sins. And we all can be saved in this same way, no matter who we are or what we have done.

23 For all have sinned; all fall short of God’s glorious standard. 24 Yet now God in his gracious kindness declares us not guilty. He has done this through Christ Jesus, who has freed us by taking away our sins. 25 For God sent Jesus to take the punishment for our sins and to satisfy God’s anger against us. We are made right with God when we believe that Jesus shed his blood, sacrificing his life for us. God was being entirely fair and just when he did not punish those who sinned in former times. 26 And he is entirely fair and just in this present time when he declares sinners to be right in his sight because they believe in Jesus.

Romans 10

9 ...if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame."

This is how you can entrust your life to Jesus and be saved.

If you want to have Jesus come into your life, take away your sins and help you live a transformed, God-centered life; basically, you just have to pray and tell Him so.  You can thankfully, accept His death as substitution for your having to spend a life without God and eternity in hell after death.  This is the most important decision you can make, bar none; and if you have made it, please email Chi Alpha.  We want to give you support in your new journey toward God.
